Under a Spell
Hypnosis has been used in the medical field for hundreds of years, actually dating back many centuries to Eastern civilizations. Hypnosis is state of mind in which the subconscious mind (the feeling part of your mind, where motivation is based) is open to the suggestions that feel right to you. In addition to taking favorable suggestions and changing unwanted behavior, the state of hypnosis is also most effective for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing and releasing unresolved issues from the past.
How does hypnosis work?
This remains a mystery even after 4,000 years of use. The "how" is not known for this natural healing technique. However, the results are undeniable. Burn victims heal faster, the timid become confident, smokers lose the desire for tobacco, and the stressed and fearful, become calm and comfortable.
Can I be hypnotized?
Yes. Every person of normal or above average intelligence has the ability to be hypnotized.
What does it feel like to be hypnotized?
A hypnotic trance provides a sense of profound physical and mental relaxation. Internal chatter is quieted, and you feel peaceful and calm. It feels similar to those few moments immediately before you drift off to sleep. Afterwards, you should feel rested, refreshed, relaxed, energized, and mentally clear. The hypnotic trance is a highly focused state of mind. You will be more aware than in your normal, waking state of mind. You will hear every word the hypnotherapist says, and may be aware of the sounds of everyday living surrounding you.
While hypnotized, will I say or do anything I don't want to?
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions about hypnosis. When hypnotized, you will not do anything that is against your moral or ethical beliefs. If you have thoughts, ideas, or information you want to keep private, you will keep that private.
Will I remember anything that is said while I am hypnotized?
Most people remember everything that is said in a session. Some individuals are naturally capable of very deep levels of hypnosis and might not consciously remember all of the details. Your hypnotherapist can give you a suggestion to remember everything from your session if that is important. Whether or not you consciously remember the suggestions you can find the desired new behavior feels natural to you.
What happens if I don't come out of hypnosis?
That is an impossibility. All trances end, whether formally ended by your hypnotherapist or by yourself.
What can hypnosis do for me?
It can help you feel more in connection with your deeper, wiser self and help you feel in control of your life for improved healthy living. Hypnosis helps you live well by:
